Smokescreen can play flash content on iPhone and iPad

June 14th, 2010 Ayush 1 comment

Smokescreen is an open source project aiming to bring flash content on iPhone and iPad without installing any flash plugin.
According to Simon Willison, here’s how it works:
"It runs entirely in the browser, reads in SWF binaries, unzips them (in native JS), extracts images and embedded audio and turns them in to base64 encoded data:uris, then stitches the vector graphics back together as animated SVG."
To enable flash content on iPhone and iPad, site developer need to include some Javascript code which will be doing all the work described above. To read more about smokescreen, click here

What does iPad lack?

February 11th, 2010 Arvind No comments

1. Camera: No camera for clicking pics, recording video or doing a video chat.
2. USB support: Since it doesn’t have camera to click snaps or record video. There should be an easy way to put your album or data into it. USB at present is the best option.
3. Flash support: Apple claims that in majority of cases flash is a culprit of breaking down Mac OS. It may be, but the fact is that Flash is used very widely now-a-days. People are migrating their sites to flash.
4. Multitasking: Perhaps the biggest disappointment, you can’t watch video while reading out a document in Pages.
