Convert movies to iPhone compatible format

August 23rd, 2009 iPhoneInterest No comments

There are lots of player (MPlayer or vlc-player) available which can play almost all the popular video formats on iPhone. Though they are able to play movies but the quality is not up to iPhone standards. To get a good quality you are required to convert movies to iPhone compatible format.
In this category lot of paid softwares are available this gives you capability to convert all the well known formats to iPhone compatible format. I found FreeVideoToiPhoneConverter freeware which does the same. The only advantage is that it’s free of cost.

These softwares take lot of time (1/2 hr to 2 hr) for converting a movie of 800 MB to iPhone format (mp4).

Recording video in iPhone (V 2.0.1)

August 23rd, 2009 Amit No comments

There are few paid video recorder available in iPhone. I tried one of them but was not happy with the quality and it takes too much time in saving video to the disk. Recently I tried cycorder, which is available free of cost. I like this recorder as it doesn’t take time in saving video. Quality of recorded video is awesome. You can’t expect better quality than this in 2 M Pixel camera.
To install cycorder, you must have jailbroken iPhone which is running firmware 2.0 or above. Go to cydia search option and type cycorder. Now install it like you installed other packages using cydia.

vlc4iphone – Media and streaming radio player

August 23rd, 2009 Amit No comments

VLC has always been my favorite player on windows. I like its ability to play almost all the well known media formats. VLC is now available on Cydia in multimedia section.
You can also find it by searching for “vlc” in search section of Cydia.
I tested quality of video of different formats and many more in VLC. Below are some features it has
1. Ability to play stream video
2. Play audio content from your PC
3. Internet Radio player
4. Ability to play well known format video

The only drawback is poor performance of video of resolution 640X480 or above. It gives a good performance for 320X240 resolutions.

Installing MPlayer on iPhone

August 23rd, 2009 Amit No comments

MPlayer for iPhone supports mpeg4, h.264, wmv, mp3, aac, wma, real media, and t-dmb formats. It is good to have more supported movie formats for iPhone so that you don’t need to convert favorite movies to MP4 format before playing them on iPhone. To do that, you need to install MPlayer. Below are the steps to install MPlayer in iPhone
1. Make sure that yours is jailbroken iPhone as MPlayer is only available for jailbroken iPhones which have 2.0 or above firmware. So if your iPhone is having lower firmware version you need to update it to 2.0 or above.
2. Open Cydia installer app.
3. Update all the pending updates in Cydia installer.
4. Search MPlayer in search section of Cydia installer.
5. Tap on install button. It’ll install MPlayer in the iPhone
6. Connect iPhone to WinSCP and go to /private/var path
7. Look for media folder and if there is no media folder in this location then create one. This is the folder which will contain all the MPlayer’s playable files.
8. Copy movie files to /private/var/media directory.
9. Open MPlayer in iPhone. It will show you the list of all files present in above folder.
10. Tap on any file you would like to play.

MPlayer on iPhone

August 23rd, 2009 iPhoneInterest No comments

MPlayer is very popular in windows. It is capable of playing mpeg4, h.264, wmv, mp3, aac, wma, real media, and t-dmb formats. This player has been ported to iPhone. Now you don’t need to convert your favorite video, audio to iPhone compatible formats e.g. mp4, mp3.
You can place any media file in /private/var/media directory and these files will be available for MPlayer. To put files in this directory, you can use WinSCP. MPlayer makes iPhone’s media capability very rich. This is must software for iPhone.
It is available in Cydia installer under ModMyI.com source.

Recording video from iPhone

August 23rd, 2009 Arvind No comments

Sometime I really feel unhappy about all the iPhone users. Poor guys don’t have a video recorder in iPhone. Being a very revolutionary and advance phone, It doesn’t have a video recorder. We have a second version of iPhone out in the market and still, the very important feature of recording video is missing. Thanks to 3rd party application developers. They have done written a video recorder for you. If you have installed cydia or installer, you can easily search iPhone Video Recorder and you’ll get it. This is not free software. You need to pay for it. If you want to use it for free then there is a crack available for it.
View this video and follow the instructions

Don’t forget to set the permission of newly copied file to 0755. To set permission of file in winSCP, right click on the file you want to update the permission, now click on properties. You’ll see a permission window. Update permission to new permissions. Click on ‘Ok’. Restart iPhone and you are ready with video recorder in iPhone. Enjoy!!!
